Don’t Be Dumb

Don't Be Dumb

So I was having a conversation with one of my vice presidents earlier this week. She was having issues with her computer so I had been helping her out. [BTW, does anyone know why Outlook Calendars sometimes tell you that access to the resource is denied and that you must sign out of your Windows Live ID or whatever. Can’t seem to fix the problem.] One of the things that I wanted to do was delete her cookies, so before I did so, I asked her if she saves any passwords on any websites she visits. She answered in the negatory. We got into this conversation about how it’s stupid to save your password. She was saying how for all of their technical savviness, young people are getting lazy . . . and dumb. Of course, I am paraphrasing. She said it nicer.

Which leads me to another thing . . . the dumbing down of America . . . politically. Let me share with you something that was said at the National Prayer Breakfast last week.

“There is no God who condones taking the life of an innocent human being. This much we know.”

Do you guys know who said that last week at the National Prayer Breakfast?

No, not Billy Graham. Not James Dobson. Not Rick Warren.

President Barack Obama.

Confused?

Me, too.

First. Let me clear. This post will not be about whether you should be pro-life or not.

Let’s be objective. What message is Obama sending to a room full of conservatives when he makes this statement? No matter how you look at it, in that context, when you make a statement like that, you’re asking for it. Sure, what he was referring to was the taking of innocent lives as casualties of religious warfare, but when you say it to a crowd of right-wingers, semantics is so important.

Obama is not a dumb man. He’s a brilliant, eloquent and charismatic individual. Either he knew what he was saying or he slipped.

I don’t care if you support Obama or not. I am just asking that you not be dumb. Listen to what he is saying and then consider whether it matches the decisions he makes. In less than a month in administration, he has shown some inconsistencies.

Don’t be dumb means just be informed about what is going on in our country. Don’t just listen and follow like blind mice. There have been way too many nations that have gone astray because of empty rhetoric.
